Fit You Can Trust

Sew Chic Patterns: Built upon bridal brand beginnings.

About Sizing - measuring back waist length on a dress form with a yellow tape measure

Working with  custom design, Sew Chic designer Laura Nash was prepared to launch her bridal line and presented her initial collection on the fashion week runway—when she discovered her true passion: empowering women to look and feel their best.  As bridal wear sizing is more stable and less influenced by vanity sizing. A size chart developed from real client measurements, years of fitting experience, and matched to ready to wear, carrying forward the same Misses was a natural choice.

With years of use and a solid Misses foundation, rather than just expanding, the expansion into plus-size meant developing a brand new block and a size chart intentionally dovetailed and cross-checked to ensure it meets the same fit criteria. Accuracy remains a priority and every new design is verified with dedicated fit models.

By grounding our system in live-person measurements and established industry standards, Sew Chic charts should feel familiar and trustworthy. The first step in sizing is to identify your range by measurement and shape.

Choosing Your Range

Find your shape, pick your range

Measurements are only half the sizing story — it’s the shape and proportion of the pattern that also determine fit. A single range that stretches from the very smallest to the very largest will never fit correctly at both ends, because these body shapes are different. Put simply: one shape does not fit all.

That’s why we offer two ranges — Misses and Plus. It’s twice the work and twice the production cost, but delivers twice the value! Don’t let the chart titles distract you; think of them simply as Range A and Range B. The real discovery is finding which range suits your body shape best. To help you decide, we’ve created a quick and fun quiz to match you with the right range. Think of it less as a size label and more as a guide to pattern shape. At Sew Chic, our patterns are designed for an hourglass body type with an average to long waist, and an average to tall height of 5’6”–5’8.

Fun Quiz

For each question, select either option A or B — whichever best describes you.

1. When wearing a top with a high neckline:
a. It feels too restrictive
b. I love wearing high necklines

2. Bust darts:
a. Often sit too high on me
b. Sit too low, or fit is about right

3. The width of my shoulder/arm joint is:
a. Narrower than my hips
b. About the same width as my hips

4. At the waist:

a. I need more room in the front than the back (side seams may pull)
b. I need about the same amount of room in the front and back

5. Sleeves and shoulders:
a. Sleeves feel tight across the bicep or the shoulders don’t fit well
b. Sleeves could feel loose

Interpreting Your Results

Add up your answers. Did you select more A’s or more B’s?

      • Choose the Plus Range if your answers are mostly A’s. In general, your beauty features narrow shoulders, full biceps, a low bust, defined waist, and full hips.
      • Choose the Misses Range if your answers are mostly B’s. In general, your beauty features broad shoulders, slender neck, a high bust, defined waist, and full or slender hips.

Your measurements will also help guide you to the range that is most likely to fit best. The concept is to minimizing adjustments. With an idea of which shape is right for you, the next step is to pick your size(s).

Choosing Your Size

You get all sizes included within each range.

Our range charts are based on ready‑to‑wear measurements and are true to size, so picking your sewing pattern size should feel familiar, like choosing clothes off the rack — only better. Unless the style requires more design ease, expect a standard wearing ease allowance:

Bust = 3″, Waist = 0–1″, Hip = 2″.

It’s not uncommon to need a different size for every area of the figure. It’s a simple concept of graphing your chart size for each area of the body, then transitioning between sizes to fit the waist and hip.
