Description

The Beatrice Pocket Dress sewing pattern features a vintage modern sheath dress with kangaroo pockets and optional back bustle sash. Designed for sewists seeking reined construction and polished results.

It’s the up-scale details that make this classic style fabulous!  Ready to put the spotlight on your most luxurious fabrics, you will find darts everywhere you need them for a great fit. This dress features a fully lined fitted bodice with a notched round neckline and ¾ sleeves. The below knee pencil skirt has front kangaroo pockets and a back center pleat. Closure is a left side zipper.

Suitable for all woven fabrics without nap. For two layers as shown, choose highly textured or sheer overlay fabrics such as lace, flocked, embroidered organza’s and voile; underlay in medium weight solids such as cotton, taffeta or satin OR choose dress weight fabrics for a single layer dress in dynamic prints in rayon, linen, silk or cotton textures such as brocade, eyelet, dupioni, seersucker, embroideries. Use lining fabrics such as or similar to habotai, chiffon, satin, crepe de chine, bemberg, posh.

NOTIONS: Thread, 14” zipper, 1 ½ yards 3/16″ twisted cotton cording

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS:
60″ Overlay without nap (optional) 2 3/4 yards
60″ Underlay or Dress Fabric without nap 2 3/4 yards
45″ Lining without nap 1 5/8 yards
22″ Fusible Interfacing 1 yard

*Extra fabric required for nap, one-way, plaids or stripes.

How Our Sizing Works

All of our patterns are multi‑sized, and every size is included in each pattern. We use a measurement‑based sizing system similar to bridalwear, so your usual retail size or standard pattern size may not correspond to our chart. Select your size using your body measurements, choosing the closest match for each area. You can achieve an excellent fit by customizing your size across the three main measurement points.

Misses Fit

Our misses block is drafted for a true hourglass figure with broader shoulders, a full B‑cup bust, a long waist, and a height of 5’7″. Fitted styles generally include:

  • 3″ full‑bust ease
  • 0–1″ waist ease
  • 2″ hip ease

Additional design ease may be added depending on the style. To understand the finished garment fit, refer to the body measurements in the chart and add the ease amounts listed above.

Plus Fit

Our plus block is drafted for a different distribution of curves than the misses block, with narrower shoulders, a fuller waist and hip, a slightly shorter waist length, and a height of 5’7″. Plus patterns include cup sizes from C–F, which vary by style. Fitted styles include:

  • 2.5″ full‑bust ease (to support a smooth fit on a fuller bust)
  • 1″ waist ease
  • 4″ hip ease

Additional design ease may be added depending on the style. To understand the finished garment fit, refer to the body measurements in the chart and add the ease amounts listed above.

Designed to pair with Beatrice Pocket Dress, this mini pattern also works with any SEW CHIC dress pattern featuring a waistline seam, front bodice waistline darts or princess seams, and a left side closure. The gathered belt inserts into the front dart or seam, then wraps around the waist to cross at the center back. The 24.5” bustle gathers into the center back waistline and can be worn either down or bustled. For added convenience, the pattern includes a symbol and notch template for Beatrice Pocket Dress:

    I absolutely love the princess seamed bodice. Add in that gorgeous neckline and it’s elevated to designer status. I feel like Beatrice is meant for a Firat Lady, but also for the very day lady. And it has pockets. What more can you ask from a pattern? I also appreciate that this style isn’t fabric hungry. A little bit of fabric will go a long way in creating this beautiful pencil skirt dress. I’d use the extra fabric to make a coordinating pill box hat for a put together look.

    Easily one of my favorite patterns. And my daughter-in-law’s as well. For her it is because of the big Kangaroo pocket in the front that you can put anything in. For me it is the classic style that can be made in denim or lace. I love it both ways and so comfortable as well as classic.
