Description

The Gatsby Skirt & Pants sewing pattern features a vintage modern Hollywood waist separate set with hip gathers and hidden pockets. Drafted using a modern size chart designed to fit teens through plus sizes.

Get into high style and comfort with this fun skirt/pant duo. A sleek “Hollywood” high waist provides a smooth fit, flowing into side front hip gathers with “hidden” pockets that maximize the illusion of an hourglass silhouette.  A center back zipper and princess seams allow for an all-around easy-to-fit garment. The fit-and-flare mermaid skirt features hem shaping and a side front flounce for a bouncy mid-calf flirty hem. To complete the silhouette, the “stove pipe” pant leg is slightly flared from hip to hem.

Choose firmly woven mid-weight woven fabrics with a soft or fluid drape such as rayon types, worsted wools and soft suit fabrics. Also stable knits or blends with cotton or linen having a soft hand. Some good choices might be crepe, chambray, gabardine, sharkskin, corduroy.

How Our Sizing Works

All of our patterns are multi‑sized, and every size is included in each pattern. We use a measurement‑based sizing system similar to bridalwear, so your usual retail size or standard pattern size may not correspond to our chart. Select your size using your body measurements, choosing the closest match for each area. You can achieve an excellent fit by customizing your size across the three main measurement points.

Misses Fit

Our misses block is drafted for a true hourglass figure with broader shoulders, a full B‑cup bust, a long waist, and a height of 5’7″. Fitted styles generally include:

  • 3″ full‑bust ease
  • 0–1″ waist ease
  • 2″ hip ease

Additional design ease may be added depending on the style. To understand the finished garment fit, refer to the body measurements in the chart and add the ease amounts listed above.

Plus Fit

Our plus block is drafted for a different distribution of curves than the misses block, with narrower shoulders, a fuller waist and hip, a slightly shorter waist length, and a height of 5’7″. Plus patterns include cup sizes from C–F, which vary by style. Fitted styles include:

  • 2.5″ full‑bust ease (to support a smooth fit on a fuller bust)
  • 1″ waist ease
  • 4″ hip ease

Additional design ease may be added depending on the style. To understand the finished garment fit, refer to the body measurements in the chart and add the ease amounts listed above.
