How to mark fabric with Waxed Dressmaker’s Carbon:

This product is used to transfer construction lines from the pattern to the wrong side of fabric. It is long lasting and can be used continuously.

  • Timing: Mark your fabric after the layout and cut, but before removing the pattern pins.
  • Placement: Slip the carbon between fabric layers with the wax side facing the wrong side of the fabric.
  • The Double-Layer Trick: Fold the carbon in half to mark both layers of fabric simultaneously—waxed sides out, touching each layer.
  • Surface: Always mark over a semi-soft surface like cardboard or foam core board for a crisp transfer.
  • Tool Choice: Use a ruler to guide your tracing wheel. A serrated wheel is best for medium to heavy fabrics; a smooth wheel is ideal for delicate materials.
  • The Atelier Test: Always test pressure and color on a fabric scrap first to ensure high contrast and a perfect, non-marring result.
